Tis a load of Tweet

twitter generics 010twitter generics 030I like Twitter. I don’t use it to express my own, individual standpoints or rantings (ha ha ha I use my blog for that!) or to impress – but it is fun, harmless.

What do I use Twitter for? I use it like a wire service. In the old days of Associated Press feeds, South African Press Association feeds…. all tickering through to your (then) telex, or (now) email, were the hot-off-the-press honest-to-God facts of life – and outside of the expertise tweeting I don’t subscribe nor believe everything I read on Twitter. For the credible participants on Twitter it is a great, instantaneous provider of news and titbits, in real time… jaw dropping stuff at times!

I followed the Oscar Pistorius court hearing on Twitter; the Gupta gate news chase on Twitter – you almost get the news before the news itself happens!

Twitter players are interesting. Twitter offers a forum for the uninformed to form an opinion based on someone else’s that they may align themselves to. Twitter offers a dearth of viewpoints and photos that you can retweet with your savvy still intact. Twitter offers tweeters the opportunity to enlighten their perspectives. Twitter offers a slant on a subject that you may have been to lazy to construct yourself, but if you move it on.. you enhance your own profile. Twitter offers the novice a voyeuristic view on journalism and a chance that they may participate and that their tweet may become viral. Twitter is this new wiki-twitter of the world of news and events – most of it factual and if it isn’t your truth you can re-tweet the truth of another tweeter – sounds cute hey?

I check Twitter daily, to keep abreast. I will check in every hour in a high profile case/issue that is of interest to me. I seldom tweet myself – I don’t believe I have that much to say via this medium, it would just get lost in the 1000th tweet of the hour to the 1000th follower of fashion.

Twit tweet tweeted but not defeated!
